WASHINGTON, March 2, 2026 – In a weekend dominated by breaking news of U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran, thousands gathered on the National Mall on Saturday, Feb. 28, for the national March 4 Democracy (M4D) rally and march, a sweeping mobilization demanding constitutional accountability, the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump, and an end to reckless military escalation abroad.

As news of the strikes emerged early Saturday, organizers made the decision to proceed with the planned demonstration while adapting in real time. At the conclusion of the pre-approved march route, participants converged with a large, emergency anti-war mobilization outside the White House, forming a unified demonstration against both domestic authoritarianism and expanding conflict overseas.

The result was a high-energy, disciplined and visually striking protest that linked the defense of democratic institutions at home with growing alarm over the prospect of another prolonged war.

A 25-foot banner carried at the front of the march read: “The Constitution Is Not a F***ing Suggestion. Impeach. Convict. Remove.”

Crowds stretching across multiple blocks chanted in unison, calling for impeachment, conviction and removal, while denouncing corruption and executive overreach.

“This is what democracy looks like when people refuse to sit quietly while the Constitution is tested,” said Jasmine Johnson, executive director of Fight Against Fascism Organization and a featured speaker. “We will not normalize lawlessness at home or escalation abroad. The American people deserve—and demand—accountability.”

Impeachment Advocacy Began Friday on Capitol Hill

The weekend mobilization began Friday, Feb. 27, with more than 100 constituents participating in coordinated impeachment lobbying meetings on Capitol Hill led by FLARE. Veterans, workers, organizers and first-time advocates met with congressional offices to demand constitutional oversight and accountability at the highest levels of government.

Saturday’s rally followed, drawing thousands to the National Mall before the march proceeded toward the White House and merged with anti-war demonstrators responding to the breaking international crisis.

Veterans, Candidates and Movement Leaders Address the Crowd

The rally program featured veterans; congressional candidates from Connecticut, Georgia, New York, and Virginia; grassroots organizers; a former Trump campaign staffer turned whistleblower; and leaders of national pro-democracy coalitions.

Speakers emphasized the constitutional framework of impeachment, the dangers of executive overreach, the economic strain on working families, and the historic risks of entering another open-ended military conflict.

Thomas Sidle, founder of M4D, addressed the convergence of domestic and international crises.

“When leaders undermine democratic institutions at home while escalating military conflict abroad, citizens have a responsibility to act,” Sidle said. “This movement is about defending the Constitution and ensuring no one—no matter how powerful—is above it.”

Musical and cultural performances, including a live marching band and spoken word artists, energized the crowd throughout the afternoon.

Solidarity Events Held Nationwide

The Washington mobilization coincided with more than a dozen solidarity events in cities across the country. Organizers hosted parallel rallies and community gatherings aligned with the Feb. 28 national day of action, underscoring the decentralized and rapidly expanding nature of the coalition.

A Broad Coalition Behind the Effort

March 4 Democracy was organized by a wide coalition of grassroots organizations, veterans’ advocates, labor leaders, civil rights organizers and pro-democracy groups. Dozens of partner organizations coordinated logistics, outreach and programming, enabling the demonstration to scale quickly even as international headlines shifted overnight.

Organizers emphasized that the Feb. 28 mobilization marks the beginning of a sustained national accountability campaign in 2026.

“This weekend showed that people are watching, organizing and ready to engage,” Johnson said. “Democracy does not defend itself. People do.”

About The March 4 Democracy Coalition

The March 4 Democracy coalition is a rapidly expanding movement of people-powered organizations fighting for a democracy not just in name, but in deeds. M4D is a movement built from outrage, solidarity and the American working class. We believe representation should be shaped by human need and shared voice, not wealth, race, or privilege. We reject a system built on exploitation, silence, and stolen futures. We are parents trying to pay the rent, veterans fighting for the benefits we were promised, immigrants surviving state violence, workers crushed under corporate greed. And we’re done waiting for permission to demand justice. For more information, visit the website: https://march4democracy.org/.
